How We Operate
Making a Difference for the Neighborhood We Love
The Capitol Hill Community Foundation is funded entirely by voluntary contributions, and from the beginning we’ve given 100 percent of that money back to the community in grants and foundation-directed projects. Members of our board of directors pay all administrative expenses.
Since our founding in 1989, the foundation has raised more than $2,000,000 for school based and after-school enrichment programs, streetscape beautification, arts education, Little League baseball, and hundreds of other worthy community efforts (see Recent Grantees). We’ve also launched a neighborhood oral history project, which now boasts a highly successful lecture series, and the Robert L. Herrema Awards, which recognize outstanding building renovation and design work in the community. And in 2005 we took on our most ambitious effort yet, the School Libraries Project that seeks to renovate eight of Capitol Hill’s outdated public school libraries, at a cost of some $3 million.
The Capitol Hill Community Foundation is proud of all we’ve accomplished, and we’re determined to achieve much more for the neighborhood we love – with your help.
