Stuart-Hobson Middle School Supplement funds donated by parents to send 80 5th and 6th grade students to “space camp” at the US Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Stuart-Hobson Middle School Uniforms, transportation and registrations expenses for Track Team.

Capitol Hill Cluster School PTA Plants, mulch and maintenance support for Peabody School garden.

Watkins Elementary School Creation and installation of an outdoor sculpture for the Watkins garden. 

Peabody School – professional development Professional development and new building blocks for twelve classrooms.

Brent Elementary School Materials in support of the Museum Magnet program at Brent.

Brent Parent Teacher Association Purchase of rhythm instruments and cds to supplement music program.

Tyler Elementary School – Urban Learning through Outdoor Play Seed money towards ambitious project to turn tarmac playground into garden and eco-friendly playground. 

Center for Inspired Teaching Partnership with Tyler Elementary School Continuation of program that has been working with teachers at Tyler since 2004, offering them mentoring and other training.

Maury Elementary School Partial funding for small renovation project to create a new pre-school classroom to prepare for expansion of program for 3 year-olds.

Two Rivers Public Charter School Books, word games, teacher resources to improve students’ vocabularies.

Two Rivers Public Charter School Purchase of Orff instruments for music program and to send teacher to national conference on Orff-Schulwerk education.

Two Rivers Public Charter School Purchase of multiple copies of picture books that teach reading comprehension strategies.

Two Rivers Public Charter School Materials in support of the art program. 

Two Rivers Public Charter School Book shelves and books,cds and dvds to create a drama library.

Other Programs for Children

Kid Power-DC After-school Citizenship Project which pairs high school students with elementary school students for civics education.

Capitol Hill Cooperative Nursery School Contribution towards financial assistance and for music program.

National Maritime Heritage Foundation Support for financial aid for Kids Set Sail, an intensive five-day summer program in sailing skills and water safety for children from Holy-Comforter/St. Cyprian through partnership with Center City Consortium. 

Secure Your Children Morning Services Morning tutoring program in math and reading for students at Stuart-Hobson in math and reading. 

Capitol Hill Computer Corner Summer Enrichment Program for kids 5 – 18 offering field trips, meals and technology instruction. 

Higher Achievement Program Underwriting for three-day college trip that will take 100 scholars from the Ward 6 Summer Academy to visit Old Dominion University.

Resources for Inner City Children (RICH) Support for Saturday Academy created at the request of the math department at Cesar Chavez Public Charter School for Public Policy. Students get breakfast and math instruction in small groups.

Friends of Fort Dupont Ice Arena Ten visits by Capitol Hill public school groups -- off-ice instruction in nutrition (and other subjects), skating lessons and supervised practice time.

Friends of Tyler School Funds to match money raised by Board towards salary for newly created position of part time director of tutoring and mentoring program. 

Friendship Public Charter School/Friendship News Network Contribution towards free, summer journalism program for low-income children.  Staff will include high school and college interns paid by DC summer jobs program. 

Polite Piggy’s Day Camp Support for new summer program at Maury Elementary School. 

Capitol Hill Arts Workshop Tuition assistance for students enrolled in summer arts programs. 

Little Lights Urban Ministries Support for 7-week academic and recreational day camp for 100 kids, ages 5 – 13, most of them from Potomac Gardens.

Saturday Environmental Academy Support for overnight trip to Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Clagett Farm for 20 7th and 8th graders from Capitol Hill Schools enrolled in this ten-week free program.

Joy of Motion Dance Center Support a wide range of dance activities including classes in public schools, spring and fall dance shows attended by school children other financial aid for children enrolled in dance classes.

Capitol Hill Baseball & Softball League Program support including purchase of new riding mower to maintain field at Payne Elementary school and costs of tournaments for girls’ softball team.

Rosedale Youth Initiative Support for volunteer-run football program at Rosedale Recreation Center.  170 kids participate on 6 teams.

Social Service Programs

Metro TeenAIDS Funding towards renovation of Freestyle Youth Center at 651 Pennsylvania Ave, an after-school drop-in center for offering discussion groups and HIV testing services.

STRIVE DC Transportation costs for participants in intensive 3-week training session in job readiness and career guidance. 

DC Central Kitchen Underwriting for the 5,000 meals a year delivered free of charge to the soup kitchen at the Church of the Brethren on 4th St. SE which serves about 100 hot lunches free of charge each week day.  

Food & Friends Support for meals delivered to 335 Capitol Hill residents living with life-threatening illnesses.

Visitors’ Services Center Printing of pamphlet for visitors to jail and information guide for newly released offenders, and funds towards upgrade of back yard.  Plans provided pro bono by Mark Holler.

Our Place, DC Support for a community open house to inform Capitol Hill residents about the work of Our Place with women who are incarcerated or recently released.  They have a drop-in center which offers clothing distribution, counseling and other services. 

Capitol Hill Group Ministry Funds in support of the Family Resource Center at Potomac Gardens, emergency assistance and other case management for Ward 6 residents and Mission Possible after school program at Potomac Gardens.

Arts Programs

Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgendered Arts Consortium Support for summer production of Pirates of Penzance in collaboration with CHAW. 

Lesbian & Gay Chorus of DC Funds in support of spring concert, “Let Us Rise, Exploring the Meaning of Love.”

Theater Alliance Matching funds towards operating support for community-based theater company.

Catalyst Theater Company Costs of publicity and other expenses related to this local group’s move to the Atlas Performing Arts Center. All tickets to Catalyst are $10.

Washington Savoyards Publicity and marketing costs for the fall season for group newly based at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. 

Shakespeare Theatre Company Support for ShakesPEERS program offering  afterschool program and summer opportunities for low-income teens to participate in theater. 

The Corner Store Support for small neighborhood theater offering varied programs.

Films on the Hill Underwriting for rental of 12 films to be shown on Friday evenings at CHAW. 

Step Afrika! Underwriting for tickets to June performance series at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. 

Neighborhood Enhancement and Beautification

Hill East Waterfront Action Network General support for group that has been meeting since 2004 dedicated to supporting community education, outreach and advocacy in the development of the Hill East Waterfront neighborhood in accordance with the existing master plan. 

Rosedale Citizens Alliance Support for Kingman Park-Rosedale Community Garden providing fencing and a tool shed and improved access to water.
