Inspiring the Best in Our Children
The School Libraries Project transformed eight public elementary and middle school libraries in the Capitol Hill neighborhood into vital learning spaces for 2,500 children.
Born of a grassroots coalition of PTA presidents, school leaders, and community activists, the project was inspired by similar projects in New York City and Washington, DC. Through a unique public-private partnership between the District of Columbia Public Schools and the all-volunteer School Libraries Project, the libraries listed below were completed during the summer of 2007:
Brent Elementary School
Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School
Stuart Hobson Middle School
Tyler Elementary School
Payne Elementary School
Watkins Elementary School
Maury Elementary School
Peabody Early Childhood Center
